      Hi Sara,

      What a great question!

      I took language A levels to keep my options open, and that has been a theme since starting medicine. I believe that it broadened my knowledge of other cultures and my spanish exchange gave me invaluable life experience that i would never have got by doing physics or maths!

    I didn’t do a language at A level (I’m rubbish on holiday too) but it’s incredibly useful in later life! There have been lots of occasions I’ve seen where a member of staff able to speak another language has been really helpful to patients and improved their care. Communication is so important in healthcare that its worth knowing even a little of languages, including things like sign language. It’s never too late to start learning after your A levels too.
