I think my interest in biology and the human body took me down the science route. Doing a job that makes a difference to people’s lives and working as part of a bigger team were also quite important. I was never interested in a routine office type of role, so something with lots of variety and continuing challenges was more appealing.

As per my bio I was going out with a trainee psychiatric nurse at the time and found I really enjoyed helping here with her course work, so applied.

I said on my profile watching Scrubs did it for me!

But, in all seriousness, it is a big decision to make at 16/17 years of age and sometimes I wonder if I should have gone down a different path or if I should have done a different degree and entered at graduate level, which you can do.

Why I chose it was because science and the human body interested me, and I liked the idea of working with all types of people from all sorts of places. My interests have now changed towards preventative healthcare and mental health, rather than working on the wards, which is also possible with medicine!

For me it was the fact that I loved science but I wanted to work with people, and use that science to help them. I love the way that healthcare can bring together the science of disease with the art of people and their individual quirks.
