One of my final year placements was on a Neurology ward – stuff like brain tumours, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease and stroke. I found this fascinating and then got my first job on a neurosurgical ward – I thought brain surgery was amazing.
The one I least expected to enjoy was the children’s ward (really wasn’t into little people then), however I was really lucky to have a specialist placement on a children’s cancer ward in London – the staff and kids were amazing and it was such a fun place to work despite the illnesses the children had, it has stayed in my memory ever since.
I have been really fortunate to work in surgery, medicine and specialist trauma jobs, all have been fantastic opportunities and I learnt so many things that are still very relevant to the job I have now.
